FLEET TRAINING SESSION NEWS:

Fleet 26 held the second annual Fleet Training Session at Leschi on July 17.  The success of the event was boosted by perfect practice winds, about 8 to 10 knots throughout the evening.  And the turnout of 15 boats and about 90 sailors made it a big event.  Harry Dursch and Mark Laura put together the program, and a coaching staff of 10 volunteer fleet members helped to make it happen.  Special thanks goes to Harry Dursch for taking on the head coach role and orchestrating the event while underway, to Jack Christiansen from North Sails as a guest coach and speaker, and to Remmert Wolters and Noel Morgan for pulling off a great barbeque to cap the evening!

SUCCESSFUL RETURN OF J Fest:

The 27th Seattle J/Fest (after a 7 year hiatus) wrapped up with great sailing on Sunday, June 24.  After no sailing due to lack of wind on Saturday, the regatta bounced back with a full day of sailing on Sunday afternoon.  The Puget Sound venue came through on Sunday, providing five races, with breeze building during the day. Thank you to Sail Northwest, Bob and Ben for bringing J/Fest back and for organizing multiple social activities from Friday to Sunday. We all hope J/Fest comes back in 2019!

For the J/24s we have two things to celebrate. First of all a huge shout out to Lydia and Jailbreak for winning the J/24 division. Jailbreak had a solid series with two bullets and the worst result being a 3rd. The rest of us did not get close. Secondly the J/24 fleet was with 10 boats on the line for all five races the solidly largest fleet and we even had visitors from Montana. Thank you everyone for getting everything together for a visit to Shilshole and exposing your boats to salt water.

TEAM FURIO – 2nd PLACE at Italian Nationals

Fleet 26’s Team Furio team took 2nd place at the 2018 Italian Nationals, showing continued domination of this event, scoring top 3 finishes in the event for most of the past 5 years+.  With Mark Rogers on the bow, Shelby Milne (mast), Brian Thomas (tactics), and Kevin Downey (trimming), and skipper Keith Whittemore on the helm, Furio fought a challenging battle with the eventual regatta winner (home town La Superba, skippered by Ignazio Bonanno).  Furio led in to the last race, but dying, shifty winds allowed the home town boat to slip away in the final race to take the regatta by 1 point.  CONGRATULATIONS TO THE FURIO TEAM!  For results see 2018 Italian Nationals Regatta Results

FLEET 26 SRING SEASON RESULTS

1st Place – Tremendous Slouch Team/Scott Milne skipper

2nd Place – Rotating Teams on Kevin Downey’s boat

3rd Place – The new Tundra Rose Team/Karl Sheath skipper

It is hard to believe that the Spring Series is already over, but what a good one!
